Hermanus is not only famous for watching the whales during winter and spring, but for its wine region along Walker Bay. The strong maritime influence and pristine shores of the Atlantic Ocean, the towering mountain ranges and fynbos-clad hills all add to the attraction. Hermanus lies on the south coast of the Western Cape and unifies fifteen wineries, each growing small volumes of premium quality wine in carefully and sustainably managed vineyards. It is located about 115 km southeast of Cape Town. The prevailing summer wind, known as the Southeaster, blows across this bay towards the vineyards enhancing the cooling effect due to the proximity of the ocean.
