philosophy

Aiming at creating distinctive wines showing purity of flavour and character, Hof’s philosophy is to produce wine from unique soil, with optimal climate conditions and location. Not forgetting the importance of our winemaker’s dedication and care, resulting in supreme wines with natural expression.

The rich diversity of Robertson’s fertile soil including the lime-rich calcarious soil which is similar to Burgundy’s Cote d’Or make it eminently suitable for good Chardonnay. All our wines bare a pure expression of the soil in which they grow. The abundant supply of water from the Du Toits Kloof mountain range and the cooling South Easter breeze from the Indian Ocean provide ideal conditions to preserve and enhance the quality of our grapes.

Our winemakers handcrafted approach, applying minimal interference during vinification and the use of natural yeast with no enzymes during fermentation produce wine with unique vineyard characteristics.
